Today I’m bringing you FOUR recipes for Healthy Breakfast Fruit Cereal. Then, I’m sharing with you FOUR MORE similar recipes for healthy breakfast whole food cereal alternatives!
I know, it’s September and I should totally be in fall-food mode and everything, but I’m not! I’ll get there… I love fall and all, but it’s still in the mid-80’s here in Denver! It has been all week! It doesn’t feel fall-like. At all. It feels like SUMMER. Especially when I try and workout mid-day or early afternoon. <– Bad idea. So hot. I cannot stay hydrated. Someone tape a water bottle to my hand puhhleeease.
Alas, I continue to enjoy more hot-weather summery foods like **all the fabulous fruit** summer has to offer. It’s so dang good, it really does taste like candy. I can’t get enough: nectarines, berries, figs, plums, kiwi, grapes, cherries, watermelon…
Cereal is a year-round food though, right?! Everyone eats cereal no matter the season. Cereal doesn’t quite qualify as the healthiest breakfast on the planet. Well, that’s if you’re talking conventional processed cereal. So today I’m bringing you whole food cereal alternatives you will LOVE.
I’ve been seeing these whole food cereals floating around the internet/ social media for a while now. I’m always hunting for healthy breakfasts that are satisfying, easy, quick, and nutritous. (All you snoozers, non-morning people, you know what I’m sayin’.) With fruit being amazing right now, I was inspired to give it a go.
Making whole food cereal is hands down a healthy breakfast. It’s an excellent alternative to traditional store bought processed cereal because it’s lower in sugar, there’s no processed sugar, it’s high in fiber, high in healthy fats, heart healthy, packed with vitamins and minerals, a source of protein from the nuts/ seeds/ milk, AND you can pronounce all the ingredients that go into it. No dyes, no preservatives, just good ol’ nutrition! On top of it all, they’re just gorgeous, right?!?!
Here’s the basic recipe for my Healthy Breakfast Fruit Cereal: {FRUIT + MILK + NUTS & SEEDS}. That being said, if a recipe calls for almond butter and you like peanut butter, use that! Keep in mind the recipes are frameworks, and you can use whatever fruit, milk, nut butters, and toppings you like! I tried to keep ’em somewhat simple, but know that you can always up the flavor and nutrition with additional toppings like {cacao nibs, cinnamon, coconut flakes, dried gogi berries, raisins, nuts, pepitas, or ground flax seed}.
Now you’ve SEEN em all, so let’s dive in! As I said, here’s FOUR recipes for Healthy Breakfast Fruit Cereal. Then… FOUR MORE similar recipes I’ve gathered for healthy breakfast whole food cereal alternatives.

Without further ado…
1. OH YOU FANCY, HUH? Pull out all the stops with this bowl chock full of berries and fresh figs. #figsforthewin
- 2 fresh figs, quartered
- handful of blackberries
- handful of raspberries
- handful of blueberries
- ½ cup milk (almond, coconut, cow's milk, etc.)
- generous sprinkle of chia seeds
- generous sprinkle of hemp seeds
- 2 tablespoons cashew butter
- Pile the fruit in a bowl. Pour milk on top. Top with chia seeds, hemp seeds, and cashew butter.
2. GOOD MORNING, SUNSHINE. A reliable summery combo. Kiwi, an often overshadowed fruit, has more potassium than a banana! It also has almost two times your daily needs for vitamin C!
- 1 kiwi, peeled, diced
- ½ banana, peeled, sliced
- a couple strawberries, quartered
- handful of blueberries
- ½ cup milk (almond, coconut, cow's milk, etc.)
- generous sprinkle of chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- Pile the fruit in a bowl. Pour milk on top. Top with chia seeds and almond butter.
3. WHEN I MET YOU IN THE SUMMER. This bowl celebrates some of the fruit that is best in the summer. Peaches, mango, strawberry, and raspberries. (Feel free to add or sub in nectarines or plums!) Coconut flakes, ground flax seeds, or toasted pecans would make excellent additional toppings on this one!
- ½ peach, sliced
- a couple strawberries, quartered
- handful of diced mango
- handful of raspberries
- ½ cup milk (almond, coconut, cow's milk, etc.)
- generous sprinkle of chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- Pile the fruit in a bowl. Pour milk on top. Top with chia seeds and almond butter.
4. I LIKE TO EAT, EAT, EAT APPLES & BANANAS. This bowl is perfect year-round. It’s also the lightest of the bowls on your wallet! Summer or no summer, apples and bananas are always inexpensive and yummy. I used frozen wild blueberries because they contain two times the antioxidant content of conventional blueberries AND they’re great quality year round! (Also, they were leftover from making Chia Seed Blueberry Jam…) #Raffi
- ½ banana, peeled, sliced
- ½ medium apple, diced
- handful of frozen blueberries
- ½ cup milk (almond, coconut, cow's milk, etc.)
- generous sprinkle of chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter
- Pile the fruit in a bowl. Pour milk on top. Top with chia seeds and peanut butter.
I can’t wait for you to try these!!

If those aren’t enough, here’s some other healthy breakfast whole food cereals you can try:
1. GRAIN FREE (WHOLE 30) “OATMEAL”. Recipe and photo courtesy of Ashton at SomethingSwanky.com. I like how this recipe is roughly chopped in a small food processor to resemble oatmeal more! Check out the post, the photos do their job, I’m hungry.
2. SUPERFOOD RAW MUESLI (IT’S DELICIOUS!). Recipe and photo courtesy of MindBodyGreen.com. This is is one of the first whole food cereals I saw way back when, thanks to good ‘ol trusty Pinterest. I love the combo of colors and textures in this bowl. Plus, I fell in love with muesli cereal when I studied abroad in Australia during college, so I also love the connection to thinking of this as muesli!
3. HOMEMADE WHOLE FOOD CEREAL. Recipe and photo courtesy of Lauren at WholeLivingLauren.com. An excellent example of quick, easy, nutritious whole food cereal. I’d choose this over regular ‘ol cereal any day!! It just looks delicious, and I love when things are both healthy AND yummy. I also love all the *crunch* Lauren’s bowl has, because I find crunchy things so satisfying.
4. PALEO COLD BREAKFAST CEREAL. Recipe and photo courtesy of Jeremy at TheSmithsGoPaleo.com. Cinnamon makes everything better… especially apples! This is another blended version of whole food cereal that would make great texture reminiscent of conventional cereal or oatmeal even.
